Fraternity Sorority Alternative Meal Plan

Students that are going to participate in an on-campus organization such as a fraternity or sorority are required to participate in the Freshman Year Experience program. Since some fraternities and sororities also have their own mandatory meal plans, the University and Bama Dining are allowing new members of these organizations the option of choosing an alternative meal plan. These students will automatically have their meal plan reduced to 50 meals per semester with the option of choosing other alternative meal plans.

What are the Alternative Meal Plan Options?

Option 1 - Students that would like to have 50 meals per semester need to do... nothing! All students that join a fraternity or sorority that also requires a minimum of 10 meals per week will automatically have their Bama Dining meal plan reduced to 50 meals. After you receive your bid, please check your student account to verify that the meal plan credit has been applied.

Option 2 - Students that would like more than 50 meals per semester may change their meal plan to one of the following: Silver (160 meals per semester), or All-Access.

Option 3 - Students that would like to have no requirement to dine in any UA dining halls may choose to only pay the Community Dining Charge of $197. This option includes zero meals.

When is the deadline to downgrade?

When the University generates an official list of all new Greek members, all students on that list will be automatically downgraded from their original plan to the Option 1 plan with 50 meals per semester.
All requests for downgrades to the Greek 50 or no-meal plan ($197 fee) must be received by the first day of class for fall sorority pledges, and the first Monday in October for the fall fraternity pledges. There is no deadline to upgrade meal plans.

** Students are responsible for confirming the meal plan downgrade on
their student account. **

Small StarPlease note that All meal plans are sold as a yearly contract. You will billed for the meal plan selected in fall and automatically billed for the same meal plan in spring on your Student Receivables account. Rollover meals do not apply to cancelled or downgraded meal plans. Guest meals means that you have the ability to use your meals for a guest up to 10 times per semester.
