What are Dining Dollars?
All undergraduate students enrolled in 9 credit hours or more on campus will participate in the Dining Dollars program. The Dining Dollars fee of $350 is charged to the student account automatically when the 9 credit hour criteria is met in the Fall and Spring semesters. A $100 Dining Dollars fee is also charged during the Summer semester when undergraduate students are enrolled in 5 credit hours or more. Just like the meal plan, Dining Dollars is an account on the Action Card.
The Dining Dollars program is designed to supplement a student’s campus dining needs. The $350 Dining Dollars equals about $20.59 per week or $2.94 per day.
Where can you use Dining Dollars?
Dining Dollars can be used at the following locations:

Most on-campus vending machines
Several food trucks regularly on campus

What happens to any unused Dining Dollars?
Unused Dining Dollars roll from fall to spring semester. At the end of the spring semester, students may request a refund of remaining Dining Dollar Funds. If a refund is not requested, the remaining funds are transferred to the student’s Bama Cash account.
What if I am unable to use my Dining Dollars?
The University of Alabama is committed to providing its students with a comprehensive educational experience. The University has determined that for most students, on-campus dining has numerous educational, social, and dietary benefits. Dining Dollars has been established to provide students with a convenient way to purchase food and beverages on campus. However, the University recognizes that some students may have circumstances that require an exemption from the Dining Dollars requirement.
Reasons you can file an exemption request:
- If you are Married
- If you are the head of a household
- Dietary Circumstance
- If you are a Veteran
- If you are a member of Alabama’s full-time Faculty or Staff
Reasons you can not file an exemption request:
- If you are a member of a fraternity or sorority
- If you are living off-campus
- If you are living at home
